Wow this soap smells absolutely amazing! Rich banana, vanilla, apple, sandalwood and rum. Smells rich and decadent so banana lovers this soap is for you! For those of you not familiar with vanilla in any product, it discolors it quickly as you can see from the picture. Skin softening Jojoba oil and oatmeal was added to this bar and kinda makes it look like chocolate nut brownie!

This soap is by far my favorite soap to make looks just like a oatmeal cookie bar loaded with goodies but only for your skin. Made with ground up oatmeal, honey, shea butter and jojoba oil. Feels absolutely amazing on your skin, leaves no build up just washes clean. This soap is great for those alllergic to scent but not good for those allergic to honey or shea butter. Shea butter is terrific for all skin types but bad for those with nut allergies.

My favorite bath and body item to make is rebatched cold processed bars. I get to enjoy part of the process without messing with lye. In case you would like to try your hand at it or just to see what I'm talking about please check out http://www.brambleberry.com/. There you will find so many bases to choose from and experiment. Rebatch bars are nothing like melt and pour soaps because it doesn't melt the same. In the beginning of my blog I showed you how to melt these bases using your oven.

Finally I have a bunch curing on my racks but the first one up is my Purity Goat Milk Soap bars with Shea Butter and Jojoba oil. That's it no colorant or fragrance just the good stuff!

As you can see rebatched (also known as Handmilled) soaps are nothing like cp bars because they have a more rustic look than smooth. Although they are rustic looking I like them best and have been told that rebatched soaps last longer. Samples will also be available for each bar listed.

Rainy Days

So in new york city it's just been raining like mad! I feel like I'm in seattle again. So finally got some things in order. My web store has specific items with specific fragrances. Its very easy to get caught up in so many scents that are out there but that can leave a deep whole in your pocket. So in other news, I finally ordered some goat's milk cp bars for rebatch! Someone asked me what I wanted for mother's day and big surprise I asked for a salad shooter! It will make my life sooo much easier as the machine shreds up the soap and all I do is cook it up. Sounds easy but a lot of work and I feel more comfortable not having to mess around with lye. I do not have patience for cp soap but love the results when I purchase a bar! I'm not sure which types I will make first but I purchased 30lbs and only two wood molds LOL. I imagine I will make the unscented varieties first and then off to the scented ones! Well that's all for now as soon as I start making soap I will post some pictures here. I'm also going to try to do another tutorial on rebatching but with crock pot.

Bath Bombs and Soaps!

So I've been very busy with tax season but thank god it's almost over. I've been working hard but at last, three more days and it's done! I like my day job, but love making soaps more. Finally I have some bath bombs listed. I've made a few in some wonderful scents! To the left is Very Sexy for men! An amazing scent that will make any woman drool smelling this soap.

This one I used some pigments, mixed up some blue with red and made this wonderful Lavender scented soap! I love lavender and it's a favorite for everyone.

Black Raspberry Vanilla is my all time favorite! So fragrant and sweet and my best selling fragrance!

Mother's Day is coming up and we all know that we owe our mother's a lot. My mom helped me raise my kids, babysit, and she also helped me be a great mom. Show your mom some love with bath & body products! Gift sets are an even better gift because she gets to pamper herself and not spend a fortune! Spring is Here! Soap Tutorial

Melt and Pour is the quickest and easiest way to create some terrific soaps either for yourself or give as a gift. There are many types of bases to use, though I prefer glycerin and white. Those two are my favorites because they are versatile and you can add so many things to make it even better. The first step in making great melt and pour soaps is a good base. Some places to purchase a good base is Brambleberry, Wholesale Supplies Plus, Peaks Candle, and BitterCreek. I particularly like their bases because they do not contain Detergents, Surfactants, Sugar Solutions, or Alcohol.

The next step after selecting the bases you will be working with is your equipment. You don't need to many things but some are important.

Colorant: You won't need every single colorant just the basics, Blue, Red, Yellow, and Black. Why are only these colorants important? Because you can mix two to create more colors and even have lighter colors. Less of any color will give you a lighter shade. If you are using liquid colorants and add only one drop of lets say blue, then you will achieve a sky blue color. Colorants are more vivid in glycerin than opaque so adding more colorant to opaque will not make it darker. So if you mix one drop blue and one drop red, you will get purple. Mixing one drop red and one drop yellow you will get orange. Mixing one drop blue with one drop yellow, and you get green. See that! All from three different colorants! Now if you add black to anything it will darken any color.

Equipment: I like using a pyrex measuring cup for the microwave and a pitcher for the double boiler method. Pyrex dish is great because as your melting the base you can see just how much you've added without a scale. Double Boiler method is great for melting larger quantities without burning the soap. For larger quantities I measure with my scale and melt away. You will also need stirring spoon or something to mix the base with so everything becomes incorporated. Another important equipment is molds which you can purchase at the online suppliers listed above.

Fragrance: Make sure you select Bath & Body safe fragrances for soaps. Body safe means your skin will not itch immediately upon contact with your soap. Alternately, you can also add soap safe fragrances to lotions, bath bombs, or whatever else your heart desires. Please check with your fragrance manufacturer prior to doing this.

Additives: You can add lots of different things to your melt and pour soap like oatmeal, poppyseeds, micas, tea leaves and many more. I also like to add oils and butters to my bases but not too much. Only add about 1tbs or less per pound to any base, otherwise you will severely cut down on your lather.

Directions:

Melt down your base using your preferred method, I used the microwave method. Add your desired additives or colorants and pour slowly into the mold. For a spring theme I'm using a floral mold from Life of the Party. I decided to make two different types of scented soap Lavender and Pikaki.

Now very important when your trying to adhere two different bases or layers, you need to keep a spritz bottle of alcohol near by. The alcohol takes away the bubbles created by over stirring and also adheres layers together. Don't worry the alcohol will evaporate from the soap so you won't smell a thing! To the right of the picture you can see I use cups for small pours and to mix different scents or colorants seperately. It's also cleaner that way. The first picture shows my purple glycerin coating the bottom of the mold which is a flower. Then I over poured the soap with some of the same colorant, poured in the fragrance, and poured into the mold. Now I do the same thing for the pink pikaki soap except I decided to add some mica powder to give it some shimmer. Now you need to work quickly otherwise the soap will solidify. Don't worry, if this happens then simply put the base back into the microwave and remelt again. Melt and Pour is very forgivable.

Here are your finished soaps! The purple one is Lavender scented, and the pink one is scented Pikaki. After your soaps are done you need to wrap them tightly in shrink wrap and your done.

Since I had some more base left over I make some more soapies!

Time is just flying on by.....

I've been meaning to do so many things but all I found time for was making more soaps! I made one of my customers fav's NYC spa soap scented with Honey Coco Mango. I've made Pink Tea Grapefruit (pictured above), Twilight, Sugar Creme and a few more! Most are quite unique because they are hand blended which some may now I love coming up with my own unique scents. Some of course do not work out well.... but others have been amazing! I've just ordered some more of my long time best selling lotion. Hopefully I will be able to list some very soon. For those of you that don't know, my daytime job is working at a Mom and Pop Accounting Agency. I really love working there mostly because all my co-workers are clowns. But of course this time of year is busiest for me but I'm not complaining.

So i'm going to hold another contest except this time it will be for a full size bar of soap and lotion! Haven't thought of what just yet but, I'll think of something!

I've been slowly getting back into soapmaking again. Money has set me back a bit so I haven't been able to replenish my stock until now! So this weekend made some vegan NYC spa soap scented with Honey Coco Mango! It smells so devine and very soothing just like a spa should smell. It has a wonderful layer of oatmeal for gentle exfoliation. My new favorite soap is Rosehip Jasmine! I'm not a fan of girly scented soaps but this one changed my mind. I also made a real man's soap. My BF loved it so much he bought two bars from me. Hopefully I will be able to put them on etsy tonight. It's scented with flowerchild, vanilla lace, and patchouli. Sounds funky right? Well it smells like a musky, heady, and mysterious man!

I've put the jewelry business on the back burner for now. I want to have specific pieces that I'd like to sell mostly metaphysical stuff. I'm going to start purchasing gemstones, sterling silver wire, and hopefully make some charm bracelets! I'm currently learning necklaces but so difficult for me as they take quite a bit of time to bead. So I'm probably going to stick to chains with add ons.

On a side note, I took the kiddies (I have a boy and girl) for a walk on Sunday because the weather was amazing! They are so lazy these days so figured they need to be a bit more active. It was great! We went to starbucks and purchased some hot cocoa, I of course got a latte! We only spent a few hours outside but they enjoyed themselves!

I'm going to do another giveaway soon for a bar of soap. Not sure which bar so I may just let the winner choose a bar! Hope everyone's weekend was great!

Inspiration for the week

This week you are going to really run yourself ragged! You really need to start delegating your time and learn to include yourself. You cannot possibly satisfy everyone else and not worry about you? If you do not learn to take the time to just relax, your body is going to shut down.

During these difficult times, we are forced to really scrimp and save every penny. Here is a low cost way to give yourself a ten minute spa evening! You may already have these ingredients in your pantry, already saving you money!

Fizzing Bath Salt Recipe
1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid
1/2 cup cornstarch
2 tbs. olive oil

Mix dry ingredients in zip loc bag and shake vigorously. Add olive oil, close up the bag, and shake like crazy. Make sure everything is mixed well. Add 2 spoons to a warm bath and voila!

Alright well it went pretty good! I got a few people to sign up for my contest which is awesome. I'm going to post the winner at midnight tonight. On another note I sold a pair of earrings! I was very excited when I woke up this morning to see a sale. Then again I think anyone who wakes up to a sale would be happy. I have listed a bunch of items on my other site and love the looks. My jewelry pieces are quite simple, I don't have the creative talent for making bold and dramatic looks but I wish I did. I would love to know what makes some people tick? What made you decide to design something so complex? I had someone interview me twice from my moonstruckmagic site and it was kewl! It wasn't difficult but exciting to me.

On another note, the year is almost over can you believe it! I don't know where the year has gone and I feel like it was just new years 2008! I usually do not make resolutions because its always something too difficult to keep like lose weight, save money, and I'll think of another! So I decided to just make goals, they don't have to be met exactly just enough to satisfy me. So as for the weight loss I like my body but, I could do away with the belly. I always thank my two beautiful sweet loving kids for that LOL. I do hope that next year will be better for everyone not just my family. I hope that those with businesses survive and make it another year. Those of you who don't know me very well probably don't know that I can do horoscopes! I love doing them and for most people they say it actually comes out! Obviously because its not personalized it won't work for everyone. I'm sure many of you read yours browsing through your favorite magazine's or even in the newspapers. Well I'm not doing that type of horoscope, I'm going to do a monthly forecast. Basically the same thing only its extremely general.

I have created a new shop! My shop features jewelry of all types memory wire bracelets, wire wrapped rings, and earrings! I love creating and this is another of my addictions. It took me a while to learn how to not only make jewelry but make them wearable! My inspiration draws from colors, gemstones and meanings behind them. I really believe in the power of color and the effect it has on you. I just recently purchase some swarovski crystals and wow they shine and sparkle like a real diamond. Only they are cheaper. I also dabble in creating charm bracelets. Most of my items are pretty, but for the most part they impart lots of metaphysical properties that may help others.

Turkey Lurky Day has arrived!

The time has finally arrived to special days in one week! Thanksgiving and Black Friday! I will definitely do some shopping and discounting my items for this day. Shipping for Black Friday and the weekend will be .75 cents! It's so hard these days to take care of yourself with little luxuries mostly because of the economy. In these harsh times, we still need to care for our bodies even if it's a small bar of wonderfully fragrant soap, sample sized lotion, or even a large one! Simple joys can always turn a horrible day into a spa day fit for one.

I love to handblend fragrances and sometimes I come up with good ones and sometimes they just smell worse! In any case I was playing around with some fragrances and came up with a new one called Bewitching. This amazing fragrance with notes of Lavender, Patchouli and a few more! Hopefully I will be able next year to make some exclusive fragrances for moonstruckmagic, but for right now I'm going to take inventory and get a jumpstart on the new year arriving really fast. Another exciting development is I've started making jewelry again! Soap is still my passion but jewelry making is right behind it. So I have this habit of trying to learn to do everything! No matter if its soapmaking or cooking. I have a passion of creating things and enjoy it tremendously. So last year I was trying to learn how to make rings and it was terrible! My wrapping was horrible and earrings looked well horrible too. So I gave it up for a little while. Recently I've started again and its been so much fun because i've been a bit more creative than normal. My mother is really the super creative and interesting type. Even when I create something its usually a bit boring! So last night I made seven rings all wire wrapped and my mother thought they were beautiful! I will post some pictures later on today. I was super proud of myself and will continue to purchase more supplies to continue the obsession! After all that is what it's like to have that love and passion for something that no one else can understand unless they create as well. So tonight instead of taking pictures I made more rings and although the technique is not like how they show on the video, I was able to make it my own style. I'm going to purchase some more wire to make more rings it's so much fun.

So earlier this week I was contacted by one of the most famous and terrific owner of Brambleberry! If you don't know what Brambleberry is I will tell you. It is a soaper's paradise. You can find everything from soap bases, colorants, lotion making tools and much more! So she wrote a small snippet about my rebatch tutorial. REBATCHING INSTRUCTIONS
2lbs Goat's milk soap shreds (because they melt quicker)
5tbs of distilled water
4tbs oatmeal half ground half whole
2tbs of honey
1tbs of sweet almond oil
1tsp of beeswax (optional not necessary)
pre lined wood mold or desired mold. If using plastic molds make sure to pretreat with light coating of pam spray plain.

I have three methods my favorite is oven and the other is crock pot and microwave.

I preheat my oven @200 degrees because it doesn't go any lower
When I have time I add the water to shreds and allow to soak for one day. No time for soaking no problem just add right before the cook. I use a Pyrex dish and cover with aluminum foil. Every half an hour I check the soap and stir gently. Over stirring after you add water will create bubbles. I usually allow this to cook for one hour sometimes hour and half because in the oven method, it becomes very mushy like when you add too much liquid to mash pot. Fifteen minutes before its ready to come out, I heat up my beeswax with sweet almond oil and pre-prepare my ground oatmeal. When the beeswax is melted and the soap is almost ready I add the honey to the beeswax/sweet almond oil and allow to heat slightly. Preheating your oils allows you to further stir the soap without it becoming hard too quick and therefore allowing you to add color is desired. But, I added no color in this recipe. Now, add the ground oatmeal to the oil/beeswax/honey mixture and stir well. Take out the soap and add your mixture and stir well to incorporate everything. Add your whole oatmeal inside and stir again. Alternately, you can add the whole oatmeal on top for decoration LOL. Pour into your mold I use a wood mold with a pre-prepared lining of freezer paper. Gently bang the sides of your mold to make sure to get rid of air pockets because you don't want holes in your soap LOL. I have a top so I put a sheet of wax paper for cooking on top then I place the wood piece on top and press down hard. Wait 24 hours for your soap to harden and dry enough to be removed from your mold and place on your baking rack to dry for three weeks.

Microwave method:
I microwave for 1min at a time on high and I measure out everything before I start cause once the soap is ready it won't wait no matter how much hot oil you add in my own experience of course.

Crock pot method:
Same preparation as above except, put soap in crock pot and allow to simmer on low for two hours or until translucent. Allow any additives or oils to melt for five to ten minutes. When this is done, pour into mold.

Also this recipe is for soap no more than month old. Older soap I add 1/4 cup of distilled water.

So I had the greatest experience a few days ago. A fellow etsian (poetsummer) ordered a foot balm from me at my etsy shop. About a week later she wrote to me that no only did she love the balm, but she really liked my NYC Spa Soap. She then went on to say that she continually sniffed the soap all day long and then ordered one! Wow was all I could say because I was thrilled that someone liked something I created! Rebatch Tutorial

Here are my soaps cut up because I was too tired and hot to grate it. So I cut them up and add only 4tbs of distilled water. This soap was pretty fresh when I ordered it so it only needs a little bit. I order my soaps from www.annelees.com. She sells the best cold processed soap because her soap is water discounted meaning allowing you to add a small percentage of water. When its time for this soap to cure it will take only two weeks and will be hard and will not shrink.

Here is my soap wrapped up and ready to get into the oven at about 200 degrees. This will cook all together for two hours. Yes I know that's too long well alternately if you don't want to wait, you can put this batch in a microwavable dish with a lid and heat it for 30 second bursts.

Every 1/2 an hour I check on it stirring but not too much so that it doesn't bubble up on me.

Here it is an hour later and getting pretty mushy and stringy. Like mashed potatoes but doesn't taste as good!

After the hour is up I begin preparing my molds, oils, butters and fragrances because once this is done it won't wait for me to be ready!

At the last 15-20 minutes I pour my Sweet Almond Oil and start chopping up my cocoa and mango butter. I love those butters so I use it as often as possible.

After I do this I put the pyrex dish back into the oven and allow the butters to melt and the oils to mix and make this batch softer. Normally rebatches are not pretty nor soft. Doing it this way allows the batch to be somewhat pourable and you will not have to plop this batch into the mold. While I'm waiting for that (15mins) I prepare my molds by lining it with freezer paper. I've also prepared a small mold made from cheap materials I purchased at home depot. I bought wood glue and there you go! It's not pretty but its the size I want for my sample soaps which are very popular!

Here is my batch all ready to be poured into the molds. Yes I said poured because the oils make the batch more fluid but nothing like cold processed soap.

I'm not even using a spoon to plop it into the mold because it just slids right off the pyrex and into the mold.

I put plastic wrap over the batch so I can squish it down and leave no air pockets like you see with many rebatches and sometimes even mine! If I don't do it properly I will get some air pockets. Some say rebatching is better for those with sensitive skin and I think its true. My children and I have very sensitive skin so I cannot use just any type of soap. Especially commercial soap!

Here is the finished bar. Now please remember if you add any fragrances with vanilla it will turn the rebatches darker. So although it looks white now, in a few weeks even a month it will darken.
